in linden california in the so called speed freak case. ken joins us live from sacramento to explain what we just learned, good afternoon, ken. >> reporter: good afternoon, the fbi wrapped up a briefing in sacramento and what we have learned is that the fbi is now in charge of this search and the potential for digging began this morning. we are now red -- >> we are now ready to begin save excavation in the rural agricultural land of california. >> reporter: this new well site is near the well which was excavated by the san joaquin county sheriff's department. that yielded three people's bones and a fetus. they believe the killers were loren joseph herzog and wesley howard shermantine and they believe loren joseph herzog started to talk when he was in communication with the authorities. the different set of remains is still a mystery and wesley howard shermantine was escorted from death row to the linden area back in the fall. the goal is to eliminate and recover remains and no particular individual is associated with this site. to be clear we only know that this may contain remains. >> repor

it was five in tahoe this morning. 39 -- 48 in sacramento some of that cold air coming in already a breeze watch is out for the north bay tonight and frost advisory is out everywhere else. the before mention low that i talked about picking up little activity could be splash abdomen dash this is a weak system and very active pattern. southern california more so than up here over about the last several days. we get little systems coming by. they don't have much moisture they're packing a lot of cold air. mostly sunny, but it's a cool breezy day with that north wind in place, so temperatures upper 40s are very very low 50s and not sure right by the bay. i think 53, 54 will be set for two or three minutes and temps will start to go back down. low 50s, closer to the water you'll see a little bit warmer temps but not a lot. same can be said, with that 51 palo alto. but because of this cold air in place tonight freeze warning and frost advisory tomorrow david so it's going to be a cold one tomorrow morning and wind protected areas. sunny, clouds thursday, kind of mostly sunny i think they were cl

. san jose, cambrian park and also saratoga/los gatos, 39. 46 in ukiah and sacramento rather chilly. sunshine today. that's the cloud cover. it wants to move but it can't move east. it's moving north. our cloud and rain forecast will show the system as it comes in and falls apart. it doesn't have anything going for it because the jet stream splits. when that happens, it leaves us high and dry. high pressure here, the storm track moves but not for us. a lighter breeze today. a tiny bit warmer. it's sunny out there. just kind of cool. i will tell you, it will drop fast tonight. clouds off to the west. but they are not going to make much of a difference if they drop in. 50s on the temperatures and some of these are a little bit lower. some near the bay. could be warmer. again, i think town towards santa cruz and monterey that would probably be the warmest. san jose, 57. temperatures in the mid-50s even on the peninsula. except woodside prob pably cooler -- woodside probably. no rain for a while. >> chilly but dry. >> cold in the morning. >> okay. >> no doubt. >> thank you. >> any time.

. 49 sacramento. ukiah is only 44. 20s for mendocino county all the way down to the salinas valley. mostly sunny. there's not much left of this system. so temperatures kind of warming up each day a couple of degrees. it's tough when you are 25, 26 in the morning to get above 54 this time of year. it's a dry pattern. maybe late friday or saturday. temperatures are coming up a little bit. not a lot. 54 at about -- and 57 will be along the coast from half moon bay to monterey. inland, i would say about 53, 55, 56. a little bit warmer towards the santa clara valley. same for the peninsula, not bad on the coast. half moon bay, pacifica, daly city, redwood city. there's a definite chill in the air dash in the air. i've kept rain out on -- chill in the air. i've kept rain out for sunday. next week looks quiet but cold. >> january. >> yeah. >> it should be cold. >>> subaru is planning to recall more than 635,000 cars and suvs in the u.s. because lights beneath the doors can overheat and cause fires. the recall affects all 2010 and 2011 outbacks, the tribeca suvs from 2006 through 2012 and

to mid-50s. 41 in tahoe. they were 5. 48 in redding. 50 ukiah, it's been a cold, cold week. sacramento temperatures they've been stuck in the 40s. again, this system will sweep to us on saturday, saturday night. it looks like some rain for sunday. early next week looks sunny and warm and really cold by the end of next week at this time. i don't want to get too far ahead of myself. increasing clouds on saturday. maybe some snow for the mountains on sunday. if you are heading up there, to to the mountains -- if you are heading up there to the mountains, keep that in mind. a little warmer in the santa clara valley. i know it was 65 at pebble beach yesterday. 50s on the peninsula along the coast. everybody in there. the warm weather wasn't the last. it will be -- did not last t will be cold tonight. i will go with light rain and then nice on monday/tuesday. so just a little system here. i don't think it will be too much. >> sounds good. thank you. >>> from actor to entrepreneur, the star that's making a bid for a well-known coffee chain. it could be the end of an era what de la salle high

and reaction. in sacramento, ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the 129th rescue wing is about to embark on a rescue mission. robert joins us with this report. >> reporter: claudine there is expected to be a lot of activity going on here today. most of it centered in this area behind me. the headquarters of the california air national guard 129th rescue wing. what will happen will look somewhat familiar to those who have seen them getting ready for their missions, which usually means going in and rescuing people from dangerous situations. this is the way preparations were qurktd conducted when they went to help on sandy then. although they can't give too many details of this mission, eventually 200 members will leave for afghanistan and the horn of africa. this will be a 4 month deployment. >> when we are preparing for this we have to have screening and combat skills training and the straining necessary to complete our job so it is quite a bit of training leading up to the deployment. >> some of that deployment has taken place already, mostly in terms of getting cargo and supplies out th
